Former Forza creative director unveils Clutch, Maverick Games' debut racer
It did not look like a happy ending for Maverick Games when Amazon ended its publishing deal earlier this year. The studio has now unveiled its debut project, Clutch, and says a full trailer will debut at the Summer Game Fest showcase on June 5. Co-founder Mike Brown, the former creative director of Forza Horizon studio Playground Games, describes the project in the reveal video as "a game about the love of driving, about the connection between car and driver, and the raw thrill of speed." Clutch follows a pair of sibling racing prodigies competing in the R1K series — a prestigious, century-old proving ground — and contrasts the pageantry of that world with the Midnight Collective, enthusiasts who prize driving for its own sake.
Early in the game, the hero gets into trouble and seeks a fixer's services, which opens the underworld beneath the R1K.
