Matt Damon's $285 Million Sci‑Fi Thriller Returns to Free Streaming

Matt Damon headlines Elysium, Neill Blomkamp's 2013 dystopian thriller in which Earth has become overcrowded, polluted and impoverished. Damon plays Max Da Costa, a factory worker who survives a life‑threatening accident and risks everything to reach a luxurious space station where the wealthy receive advanced medical care.

The cast also includes Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Alice Braga, Diego Luna, Wagner Moura and William Fichtner. The film earned $285 million worldwide on a $115 million budget but drew mixed responses. Critics gave it a 64% rating on Rotten Tomatoes compared with District 9's 90%, and viewers scored it 58%, calling it predictable or sluggish; reviewers nonetheless noted Damon's grounded, vulnerable performance opposite Copley’s antagonistic Agent M.
