Martin O’Neill was the right call for Celtic, says Kenny Miller
Celtic have handed Martin O’Neill a permanent contract after their Scottish Premiership and Cup double, rewarding the 74-year-old for two interim spells last season. He first stepped in after Brendan Rodgers left in late-October 2025 and returned in January when Wilfried Nancy’s short tenure ended, going on to secure the title after a final-day showdown with Hearts and then lift the Scottish Cup.
His reward was a one-year deal that includes the option for a 12-month extension. Ex-Hoops striker Kenny Miller said O’Neill’s experience was crucial in difficult circumstances. “The thing with Martin is that he's probably seen it all in the game,” Miller said, noting that a squad used to winning needed the experience O’Neill brought.
He also highlighted the role of Shaun Maloney and Mark Fotheringham, describing them as “young, hungry, energetic, capable coaches” who allow O’Neill to be the manager he needs to be.
