Marlon Wayans: Melissa Joan Hart Almost Starred in Scary Movie

During a promotional interview for the new Scary Movie, Marlon Wayans revealed that Melissa Joan Hart was originally "supposed to play Anna's part." The anecdote came when Anna Faris asked if any celebrity had desperately wanted a role but been turned down; Wayans answered simply, "Melissa Joan Hart." Hart rose to prominence in the 1990s with shows such as Clarissa Explains It All and Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and her run as Sabrina Spellman from 1996 to 2003 would have overlapped with the original Scary Movie debut.

Given her status as a younger-audience icon and a 1999 modeling-shoot controversy that nearly cost her the Sabrina role, casting her in the spoof would have been a surprising shift.
