Mark Wahlberg's Deepwater Horizon Leaves Netflix July 1
Peter Berg's Deepwater Horizon, starring Mark Wahlberg, Kurt Russell, Gina Rodriguez, John Malkovich, Dylan O'Brien and Kate Hudson, will leave Netflix on July 1. Released in 2016, the film holds an 82% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and is tied with Friday Night Lights as Berg's highest-rated work.
It grossed more than $120 million but matched that figure in production costs, and it earned two Oscar nominations for Best Sound Editing and Best Visual Effects. The movie follows the April 20, 2010 drilling rig explosion that killed 11 workers and injured others.
Wahlberg plays chief technician Mike Williams, who foresaw the disaster but could not stop it as executives pushed to continue drilling. Some scenes were dramatized for narrative purposes, and company executives disputed the film's account; the company also faced an unprecedented lawsuit.
