Mark Wahlberg's 124-Minute Shooter Returns to Paramount+ Charts
Nineteen years after its release, the 124-minute action thriller Shooter — directed by Antoine Fuqua and based on Stephen Hunter’s 1993 novel Point of Impact — is enjoying a streaming resurgence. Wahlberg stars as Bob Lee Swagger, a Force Recon Marine Scout Sniper veteran who is recruited by government officials to spot vulnerabilities in a planned presidential appearance and then framed for an attempted assassination.
Framed and on the run, Swagger uses his elite military training to turn the tables and hunt those who betrayed him — imagine John Wick with a sniper rifle, with a little more paranoia thrown in. Critics were mixed at the time, leaving Shooter with a 47% score on Rotten Tomatoes, but audiences responded: the film grossed $95 million at the box office and still holds an 80% score on the Popcornmeter, with Wahlberg’s performance often singled out as the movie’s saving grace.
