Marcus Rashford's Manchester United career may not be over. Michael Carrick has left open the possibility of the 28-year-old forward returning to the squad after a series of transfer developments. Rashford spent time away following a fall-out under former boss Ruben Amorim, with loan spells at Aston Villa and Barcelona.

He helped Barcelona reclaim the Liga title last month, but a permanent move looks unlikely after the club signed Anthony Gordon for £70 million and opted not to take up a £30m option on Rashford, leaving him able to report back to Carrington for pre-season. He has not played for United since the Nottingham Forest game in December 2024 but remains contracted until June 2028.

Carrick has been in contact with Rashford and has sounded out members of the first‑team leadership group, receiving positive feedback about a possible reintegration. Former United midfielder Nicky Butt believes Carrick’s management style could facilitate a comeback.
