Marc Guehi in, John Stones out — how England should line up vs Ghana
England opened their World Cup campaign with a 4-2 win over Croatia, but the display was mixed. Thomas Tuchel largely got his selection right: Jude Bellingham justified his place, while starting Anthony Gordon so Marcus Rashford could provide a late X-factor paid off.
Defensive concerns, though, mean Tuchel faces a choice with Marc Guehi waiting for a start as the Three Lions prepare to face Ghana in Boston, where a win would secure progress to the knockout rounds. Jordan Pickford did little wrong against Croatia and will remain England's number one, even if he was unspectacular early on.
Reece James was below his best and faced pressure from Djed Spence’s cameo, but he still has the quality to start again. Ezri Konsa had an off game yet brings recovery pace, aerial presence and passing, while Marc Guehi—who steadied the side after coming off the bench—should replace John Stones, who looked short on match fitness.
