Marathon's Vault Breaker PvE mode arrives in July — you leave your loot behind

Bungie is adding a new PvE mode to Marathon called Vault Breaker, arriving as part of the mid-season on July 21. The mode sends solo players, duos, or trios into the Cryo Archive raid map to tackle a series of increasingly difficult vaults and, ultimately, the final vault “and the mysterious entity within.” Vault Breaker uses its own progression system that lets characters grow more powerful across multiple matches, but it requires a special Sponsored Kit to access.

The key twist: any gear or items found inside will be left behind on exit. Players only keep Vault Data, a new currency that can upgrade the Vault Breaker Sponsored Kit or be spent on gear for other modes. Bungie says removing gear extraction will prevent the economy from being flooded with low-risk, high-power Cryo loot.
