Marathon’s Sponsored Survival should be a permanent PvE mode
After the launch server issues eased, Marathon’s Season 2 update settles into its stride. The nighttime Dire Marsh turns the swamp nearly pitch black without a torch or the new gadgets, with monsters in the shadows and toxic plants that somehow whisper, making exploration properly spooky.
Beyond the new map, Sentinel character, and weapons, the experimental Sponsored Survival mode has been the most enjoyable addition. Bungie is testing more PVP, PVE, and PVP-lite experiences, and Sponsored Survival is a limited-time experiment running from June 2 to June 9 that also lines up with the free play period — a good window to try the game if you’re undecided.
Matches begin with one team infiltrating Night Marsh and dealing primarily with UESC bots, letting players learn events and loot locations without other crews. Solo Rook players then backfill; crews start with Sponsored Kits while Rooks are naked, so early encounters feel low-stakes.
