Manhunter: The Final Cut Returns to Theaters 40 Years After Release
Manhunter, Michael Mann’s 1986 adaptation of Thomas Harris’s Red Dragon, returns to cinemas next month in a newly restored version titled "Manhunter: The Final Cut." The film follows former FBI profiler Will Graham (William Petersen) as he hunts the serial killer nicknamed the "Tooth Fairy," played by Tom Noonan, and features Brian Cox as Hannibal Lecter.
The new restoration, the press release says, "enhances the film’s depth, visual clarity and sound, offering audiences the ultimate immersive version." Mann said the remastering aimed to recapture the film’s original mood and intensity, noting the use of music with lyrics sometimes working "like a libretto" and that audio was sourced from the original 5.1 35mm analog masters.
