A man was shot in the head during a protest in central Kenya against a proposed Ebola quarantine facility for US citizens. Photographs from the scene showed a person lying motionless on the ground as dozens gathered near Laikipia airbase in Nanyuki, about 120 miles from Nairobi; some protesters wore protective equipment and carried a coffin with “Ebola” written on it.

Police used teargas to disperse the small crowds and several people were arrested. Demonstrators said they opposed the centre partly because they did not want potential carriers of the disease on Kenyan soil, and anger has been rising nationwide; two people were killed during a protest in the town on Monday last week.

The US plans to send 30 medical personnel to staff the Nanyuki facility, which would have 50 beds.
