Manchester City have had a guaranteed £106 million offer for midfielder Elliot Anderson turned down by Nottingham Forest, who insist any sale must set a new British transfer record. City’s second approach included add-ons that could push the package higher, but Forest want more than the current British record of £125m, set by Liverpool for Alexander Isak last summer.

The club paid £35m to sign Anderson from Newcastle in 2024 and are determined to maximise their return. The Etihad side must now decide whether to return with a third bid capable of meeting that valuation. While City view the offer as fair market value for a player whose profile has risen at the City Ground, the scale of the outlay is testing their resolve as the summer window heats up.

Manchester United have withdrawn from the race, unwilling to engage in an expensive bidding war and preferring to spread funds across the squad.
