Mamdani’s pals keep pressing to get him on SNL
New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani has not abandoned his wish to appear on Saturday Night Live. Page Six reported in March that his team had pitched him for the show during his 2025 campaign, but SNL head Lorne Michaels turned him down. After that rebuff, Mamdani’s circle has shifted tactics, using friends and confidants to raise the idea with NBC.
“Its a whisper campaign,” says our source. “Mamdani isn’t asking directly, its more clandestine. People who know the Mayor are mentioning it to Lorne and others at NBC.” An SNL representative replied, “This is not true. Nothing has come our way.” A source close to Mamdani added “that there has been no formal ask made.” The show is on summer hiatus until late September or October.
Ramy Youssef previously portrayed Mamdani in a Nov. 1, 2025 sketch, and the mayor shared clips and a FaceTime video of himself laughing with Youssef while the comic was still in costume. “Live from New York’ I got roasted by,” Mamdani posted.
