Luna Abyss developers laid off less than a month after release
The entire team that made Luna Abyss has been laid off less than a month after the game's release. Kwalee Labs CEO Hollie Emery announced the move in a LinkedIn post on June 16, saying, "The entire team has been made redundant; a decision that was completely outside of our control." Emery added, "As a result, the entire team is available for work as of today … Thanks for your endless support, and whilst we’re sad it ended like this—I have no doubt that our team will go on to make amazing things." The post lists nine affected developers and asks potential employers to get in touch.
Luna Abyss arrived on May 21, giving it barely any time to build an audience before the redundancies. Critics praised the game, but SteamDB shows a concurrent player count of just 43 as I write this, with a peak of 317. The bullet hell has always been niche, and this title pushed that further with a cutting-edge genre fusion.
The game blends bullet hell with first-person shooting, combining autoaim-infused blasting with pattern dodging.
