Luis Romo’s second-half goal gave Mexico a 1-0 win over South Korea in Guadalajara and secured top spot in Group A, sending El Tri back to Estadio Azteca for the Round of 32 and keeping open the chance of another match there in the last 16. The match was not Mexico’s sharpest.

South Korea had more of the ball and El Tri struggled to impose themselves in the final third early on, but Romo’s strike changed the tone and handed Javier “Vasco” Aguirre’s side the advantage it needed. Raul Rangel produced a vital double save in the 87th minute to preserve the lead, a moment that underlined a team built on discipline and resilience.

Aguirre’s bold selection to start Romo paid off as Mexico protected the result and sealed first place in the group.
