The G316 X offers gaming-oriented features and strong lighting for a mid-range price tag, but its key feel undermines much of the appeal. The keyboard sounds satisfyingly clacky, yet the white "tactile" switches in the reviewed unit are incredibly stiff and lack the mid-press bump that typically defines tactile switches.

Rather than feeling tactile, the switches behave more like very stiff linears that demand a lot of initial force, then require little for the remainder of the press—more akin to a stiff membrane than a mechanical tactile switch. After a day of typing the reviewer reported finger fatigue, and in Counter-Strike 2 the switch tension made counter-strafing harder, leading to missed shots and an accidental jump that cost a round.

There are merits: the keyboard is hot-swappable, has per-key RGB plus a 30-zone light bar and a dot-matrix LED display, and includes a volume knob and a dedicated game-mode button.
