Locator: The Search for Abigail turns Geoguessr into a narrative detective game
The simple thrill of exploring maps — remember the first time you tried Google Maps or Street View? — has been gamified by Geoguessr, popularised by streamer Rainbolt, and has inspired location-guessing variants set in places like Skyrim, Red Dead Redemption 2, and GTA 5.
Locator: The Search for Abigail is a Geoguessr-inspired detective game that sends you looking for a missing archaeologist on an alien planet. Rather than studying Earth’s flora, you’re handed ground-level pictures and asked to work out where they were taken. The challenges grow more involved as you play.
“Sometimes you'll need to read journal entries for clues, puzzle over alien hieroglyphs, and even do a tiny bit of (gulp) math,” Christopher Livingston wrote after trying the demo, and you’ll gradually learn more about the planet and Abigail Lidari. Locator is being developed by Empty Exhibit and has added Playstack as publisher.
