Locals in Palermo protest Dua Lipa and Callum Turner's three-day wedding
Locals in Palermo have protested Dua Lipa and Callum Turner's three-day wedding, which has closed parts of the city. Photos show heavy police outside Palazzo Valguarnera-Gangi, where the couple is expected to host a cocktail reception Friday; authorities have put up rings of steel around squares including Piazza Sant’Anna and Piazza Croce dei Vespri, which are closed to the public for the weekend.
Roads have been shut, no‑drone zones enforced and residents were required to sign non-disclosure agreements. Protesters plastered dozens of posters in English and Italian and later wrote graffiti after organisers removed banners, using slogans such as "Palermo is not for rent," "Our square is not your living room" and "Palermo is not for the rich." Shop owner Concetta Chillemi said the city feels like "a theme park," and a bar owner named Clarissa said the nuptials have "brought a lot of problems," adding that residents have been forced to park miles away and walk to work.
