Lisa Baum: Arsenal lead crowded transfer race for RB Leipzig winger
With a busy summer transfer window in the women’s game, a number of promising teenagers have attracted attention. RB Leipzig’s 19-year-old winger Lisa Baum has become a hot prospect, with Barcelona, Lyon, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and London City Lionesses all linked to her — and Bild saying Arsenal are the frontrunners.
Baum was born in Tanzania and moved to Germany at four. She grew up playing with her older brother Dennis, whose death at 17 she honours with his initials on her boots and tape on her wrist. Her early clubs included MTV Ahrensbok and TSV Pansdorf before she joined Hamburg’s academy; aged 15 she signed a first-team contract with HSV in August 2022 and later left on a free transfer to Leipzig after playing a key role in Hamburg’s rise back to the Frauen-Bundesliga and a run to the DFB-Pokal semi-finals.
Choosing Leipzig over interest from Bayern, Baum saw the move as "a fresh start" and a chance to play regularly.
