Taylor Sheridan's spy thriller Lioness, sometimes billed as Special Ops: Lioness, will return for a third season on August 2. The announcement confirms the show is coming back to Paramount+ just under two years after season 2 premiered. The core cast — Zoe Saldaña, Nicole Kidman, Laysla De Oliveira, Genesis Rodriguez, Michael Kelly and Morgan Freeman — are set to return.

The available synopsis suggests Saldaña's Joe McNamara will face a difficult balance between professional duty and home life, following season 2's life-threatening finale. Lioness proved a streaming hit for Paramount+, opening with six million viewers in its first week and growing in season 2 to reach 8.3 million total domestic homes, a roughly 10% increase.

The series also earned a Primetime Emmy nomination for stunt coordinator Wade Allen, and its critical reception improved markedly from a 54% Tomatometer for season 1 to 90% for season 2.
