Lionel Messi's father Jorge 'dealing with a health issue' as family demands privacy
The family of Lionel Messi have confirmed that his father, Jorge Messi, is currently going through a health-related situation and is under medical supervision, recovering and progressing favorably within the condition he is experiencing. Expressing deep discomfort, the family criticised the lack of sensitivity, respect and discretion shown by some around what they call a strictly private matter.
They said only his closest relatives have real and accurate information and warned that any version or statement not coming directly from the family and its official channels should not be considered valid. Messi has also made a notable start to the 2026 World Cup as Argentina began their title defence with a 3-0 win over Algeria.
The captain scored a hat-trick, wept after his first goal and later explained his tears were the result of difficult days and personal matters unrelated to football; the three-goal performance took his World Cup tally to 16 goals, equalling Miroslav Klose as the joint-all-time top scorer.
