Lionel Messi's family: Wife Antonela Roccuzzo and three sons
Soccer star Lionel Messi’s family began long before his rise to global fame: he first met Antonela Roccuzzo as a child in Rosario and they reconnected in 2005. The couple welcomed their eldest son, Thiago, in 2012, followed by Mateo in 2015, and completed their family with Ciro in 2018.
Messi is once again captain of team Argentina at the 2026 World Cup, with his partner and three little ones cheering him on from the sidelines. Roccuzzo, a model and influencer with almost 40 million Instagram followers, has supported Messi throughout his career and often appears on the sidelines with their children.
The pair originally met through Roccuzzo’s cousin and Messi’s longtime pal Lucas Scaglia, and after a period of long‑distance dating they confirmed their romance in 2009 and married on June 30, 2017, at City Center Hotel Casino in Rosario. Their oldest son, Thiago, was born on November 2, 2012; Messi tattooed the newborn’s name and handprints on his calf and later reflected that fatherhood had changed everything.
