The Steam Machine now costs upwards of $1000, and PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles are hundreds of dollars more expensive than at launch nearly six years ago. Even the Nintendo Switch 2 is facing a price increase, leaving many to hope that rising hardware costs will ease.

At ISC 2026, Lenovo executive director Martin Hiegl said the industry has entered a new normal for DRAM and NAND prices. The company noted that DRAM manufacturers are expanding production, but those efforts are unlikely to bring prices back to their original levels in the foreseeable future; Hiegl said inflated prices could persist until at least 2030.

Platform holders and manufacturers have pointed to component costs as the driving factor.
