Lego launches Pokémon smart bricks for interactive battles
Lego has launched motion-sensitive 'smart' bricks for Pokémon sets that produce sound effects and flashing lights when paired with different builds, bringing Pikachu and other creatures to life and enabling interactive battles. The tie-up unites the world’s biggest toy company and the world’s biggest media franchise: Pokémon is 30 this year and remains the biggest-selling name in UK toy stores.
Julia Goldin said there was an "80% crossover" between the two fandoms, and fans told designers they wanted either "I just wish they were here in the real world" or "I just want to feel like the trainer." The Pokémon "smart play" sets will go on sale in August but can be ordered now.
To get started you need a set that contains a smart brick (and two bricks to battle); the cheapest starter pack costs £60 while other sets start at £13.
