LEGO Batman pays tribute to Batman Forever’s 'Kiss from a Rose'
In LEGO Batman: Legend of the Dark Knight, TT Games pulls together moments from across Batman’s screen history — from Batman: The Animated Series and The Dark Knight to Batman and Robin. Amid the familiar homages, the game’s credits use Seal’s 'Kiss from a Rose' rather than the bombastic pieces typically linked to the character.
'Kiss from a Rose' originally appeared on Seal II and hadn’t been a major hit before appearing on film soundtracks. Director Joel Schumacher liked the song but found it didn’t fit a romantic scene in Batman: Forever, so he placed it over the film’s end credits instead.
The movie’s exposure transformed the track. Batman: Forever became one of 1995’s biggest box-office successes, and the song climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in late August 1995, finishing the year at No. 4 on the Year-End Hot 100. Schumacher also directed a Batman-themed video for the song, and Seal went on to win three Grammy Awards, including Song of the Year and Record of the Year.
