When Lee Cronin's The Mummy arrived in theaters earlier this year, viewers noticed a familiar surname. The film’s archaeologist Professor Bixler (Mark Mitchinson) shares a last name with Beth Bixler (Lily Sullivan), a main character in Cronin's Evil Dead Rise. At first the director described the link as "He could be a distant relative." Speaking ahead of the film's physical release on July 14, Cronin said, "I'd like to think that anything that I type out and turn into a screenplay is somewhat connected in some world, in some way, shape or form." He added, "But in a way, I just have fun with that myself." On the Bixler connection he suggested, "It could be the typical Irish family thing: I've got cousins I've never met.
