The streaming era lets series find new homes and new audiences. Lawmen: Bass Reeves, an eight-part Western that debuted on Paramount+, has quietly climbed into Netflix's Top 10, reigniting interest in the show and prompting renewed discussion about a second season.

The period drama stars David Oyelowo as Bass Reeves, one of the first Black deputy U.S. Marshals working in Indian Territory. Reeves' struggle with a past as a slave and his efforts to maintain law and order anchor a dramatized biopic produced by Chad Feehan and Taylor Sheridan.

Feehan has said a follow-up season would focus on a different lawman or law woman, and the series has room to spotlight many historical figures from the Old West, from Wyatt Earp and John King Fisher to C.S. Fly or Texas figures such as Marshal Jim Courtright and Marshal Mamie Fossett from 1923.
