One of Taylor Sheridan's lesser-known series has arrived on Netflix. The eight-episode 2023 western, Lawmen: Bass Reeves, was somewhat overlooked when it premiered but has been described as better than Sheridan's flagship, Yellowstone. The series follows Bass Reeves, played by David Oyelowo, tracing his rise from enslavement to becoming the first Black U.S.

Marshal west of the Mississippi. It shows his arrest of more than 3,000 outlaws and examines the moral and spiritual cost the badge exacted on him and his family. Created and showrun by Chad Feehan with Taylor Sheridan among the executive producers, Lawmen: Bass Reeves stars David Oyelowo alongside Lauren E.

Banks, Demi Singleton, Forrest Goodluck, Barry Pepper, Donald Sutherland and Dennis Quaid. Though it was initially planned as a direct follow-up to Yellowstone, the series is now considered a standalone title and is available to stream on Netflix.
