At the start of June, Taylor Sheridan’s western Lawman: Bass Reeves arrived on Netflix and quickly found a new audience. Three years after its 2023 debut on Paramount+ and the Paramount Network, the series climbed Netflix’s global streaming charts and briefly appeared on the weekly Top 10 in the US and worldwide.

Before falling off the lists it logged 3.3 million views in its first week on Netflix, equal to more than 20 million hours watched, and finished as the sixth most popular series on the platform that week. Created by Chad Feehan with Sheridan as an executive producer, the show stars David Oyelowo as a fictionalised Bass Reeves, tracing his rise from a runaway slave to the first black U.S.

Marshal west of the Mississippi. The supporting cast includes Lauren E. Banks, Demi Singleton, Forrest Goodluck, Donald Sutherland, Dennis Quaid, Barry Pepper and Shea Wigham, and the series delivers the high-budget action associated with Sheridan’s projects.
