Laura Bailey introduces Sister, her new Critical Role fungril

Critical Role will premiere Age of Umbra: Sallowlands on July 9, shifting from Dungeons & Dragons to its own tabletop system, Daggerheart. The miniseries follows a band of adventurers through the corrupted, nightmarish Halcyon Domain. The full cast includes Laura Bailey, Jennifer English, Vico Ortiz, Abubakar Salim and Zachery Renauldo, with Matthew Mercer returning as Game Master.

On the Beacon-exclusive talk show Fireside Chat, Bailey offered a quick tease of her new character, Sister. She contrasted Sister — a fungril hedge witch — with her earlier fungril, Sweetpea Betabean, calling Sister a "hot, big fungril" who wields magical abilities.

Social posts and design notes describe Sister as grotesque in a beautiful way, resembling a mushroom left out in the sun. Bailey added that the characters in Sallowlands are "quite creepy," a tone that matches previous descriptions of the setting as "Soulsborne-esque, super dark and deadly." Fellow cast member Abubakar Salim will also play a fungril, though his ancestry is giant.
