Peter Sarsgaard has joined The Last of Us Season 3 as Amon, a leader of the Seraphites — a new character absent from the Naughty Dog games but intended to fit the show's world-building. Sarsgaard's credits include Boys Don't Cry, Orphan, The Magnificent Seven and The Batman, where his turn as Gotham District Attorney Gil Colson and that death scene propelled the film into its second act.

The casting update arrived during the series' one-month filming hiatus. The Directors Guild of Canada's production list confirms the pause, which prompted cancellation rumors; a more plausible explanation is the FIFA World Cup, with matches in Vancouver expected to complicate on-location production.

Filming is on hold until Jun. 28. Season 2 revealed Isaac Dixon (Jeffrey Wright), who dominated every scene he was in, and the show will now introduce an all-new nemesis. Episode 4's harrowing kitchen sequence featured a fully indoctrinated Scar, raising the stakes for any opponent of Isaac.
