Kingdom Hearts fans allege AI use in collection's box art
Kingdom Hearts fans have raised concerns that the box art for the newly announced Kingdom Hearts Collection was AI-generated after spotting unusual illustrative quirks. Observers flagged discrepancies including Donald Duck appearing to have four fingers on one hand and five on the other, chains arranged in impossible configurations, a clock tower with drooping hands, missing details on the soles of Sora’s shoes and a building that appears to be melting.
The image carried what many described as the hallmark sloppiness and physical impossibility of generative AI (which Disney would seemingly be OK with). Polygon reached out to Square Enix about whether the artwork was AI-generated but had not received a response at the time of publishing; the story will be updated if the company replies.
The incident comes as the game industry’s use of generative AI has players on high alert.
