Kingdom Hearts 4 reappeared during today's Nintendo Direct with a new 90-second trailer, breaking four years of near-silence since its 2022 announcement. Until now the series had only a three-minute reveal trailer to sustain eager fans. The teaser shows a gigantic heartless manifesting among skyscrapers in Quadratum — the Kingdom Hearts version of Tokyo, specifically Shibuya — while Sora performs airborne flips and wields his keyblade.

Brief glimpses include Strelitzia, Organization XIII member Luxord, and what appears to be a young Xehanort holding a battered umbrella over Sora. Earlier artwork by Tesutya Nomura for the series' 24th anniversary depicted him in the same outfit with an undamaged umbrella.

The setting feels more grounded and, in places, empty; the writer suggested that may be down to Switch 2 rather than the game itself.
