Ipswich Town have confirmed that Kieran McKenna has stepped down as head coach, a month after securing the club’s return to the Premier League. The 40-year-old, who guided the Tractor Boys to consecutive promotions, said he has decided to take time away from the game, ending speculation about a move to Fulham.

His departure came just weeks after the promotion was sealed. The club’s statement said he has "made the decision to take time away from football management." In a personal message, McKenna said: “It is with a mixture of gratitude, pride, sadness and contentment that I have decided to step down from the honour of managing this historic football club.

When you have the connection that we have built at this club there is never a good time to say goodbye.
