Kevin Feige wants MCU X-Men to start anew with a big swing
Screenwriter Lee Sung Jin says Marvel’s upcoming X‑Men film will restart the franchise rather than carry over lore from earlier movies. He shared the update in a new interview with Deadline, noting Kevin Feige wants the project to take a big swing and not be beholden to what came before.
Lee, who worked on Thunderbolts with director Jake Schreier, explained that Thunderbolts faced more parameters because it plugged into an existing arc, while the X‑Men film has allowed the team to blue‑sky ideas in the writers’ room with Feige and Louis D’Esposito dialled in.
He recalled watching the X‑Men show with his father and said seeing every character on the board made the work feel emboldening and pointed toward a bold new take. That approach is notable because Avengers: Doomsday, arriving before Schreier’s standalone film, has announced several original X‑Men stars for the team‑up movie.
