Kempes challenges Lamine Yamal to prove himself at World Cup

Spain sensation Lamine Yamal has been warned he still has plenty to prove on the international stage despite his meteoric rise at Barcelona. Argentina legend Mario Kempes challenged the teenager to replicate his club form at the World Cup if he wants to be considered a true superstar.

Kempes set the bar plainly: "He needs to prove that [he is a superstar]. In Barcelona, we’ve all seen it already, but let’s see it in the World Cup. That’s where the value of the big players shows." He added that the knockout pressures of international tournaments tend to separate the good players from the greats.

Kempes stressed the difference between a well-oiled club and a national side, saying: "The World Cup isn’t like playing with the team, as many who played in Barcelona did.
