Kelly Clarkson Chokes Up After Rita Wilson's Heartfelt Tribute
Rita Wilson visited The Kelly Clarkson Show on the May 27 episode to perform and talk about new music, and she used what may be her last appearance to pay tribute to the host. Wilson, star of Sleepless in Seattle and wife of Tom Hanks, told Clarkson, "I just want to say one thing before we go.
I want to thank you for the years that you've been doing your show. I want to thank you for literally changing the game when it came to daytime television." Wilson went on to praise Clarkson for bringing music into daytime TV, saying, "The fact that you love music, that you have brought so much music to daytime that you have shared with us your voice, your gifts and everyone else's — and your incredible band." Her remarks moved Clarkson to tears; the host said, "I'm not crying," before embracing Wilson and adding, "That's so nice." The audience applauded, and Clarkson, wiping away tears, told the crowd, "I'm like, shut it off, it's okay." The Kelly Clarkson Show is scheduled to end its seven-season run later this year.
