Katy Perry sparkles in silver at World Cup 2026 opening ceremony
Katy Perry kicked off the 2026 World Cup at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, performing Friday night in a silver Stella McCartney FW26 Ready-to-Wear floor-length dress. The gown featured an exaggerated waistline and long, tinsel-like strands, a possible nod to Tinseltown.
She opened the ceremony with her song "Wonder" from the 2024 album "143." She shared the stage with Tius, a 10-year-old boy from Norway whose vocal on "Wonder" was recorded in 2021 when he was five. Perry said she heard his voice in 2023 and was inspired to write additional verses for the song and add it to her sixth album.
Tius flew from Norway to Los Angeles to sing with her at the World Cup. The star-studded number also included Tyla, Anitta and others. The U.S. opening is one of three host-country ceremonies, with Shakira headlining in Mexico City and Alanis Morissette, Michael Bublé and more performing in Canada.
