The Princess of Wales met 30-year-old Claire Lorente at The Christie cancer centre in Manchester on the final day of Lorente’s breast cancer treatment. After an introduction, Kate embraced her and said, “Well done you!” The princess had revealed her own cancer diagnosis in March 2024 and announced she was in remission in January 2025.

Keeping a reassuring hand on Lorente’s arm, Kate asked how long she had been undergoing treatment as the mother became tearful. Lorente said she had been receiving treatment for nearly six months and still had surgery ahead; Kate described it as an “amazing day” after a “tough” journey and acknowledged that cancer also affects loved ones, saying, “I know it’s just as hard for families and loved ones.” Kate greeted the couple’s baby, asking, “Isn’t Mummy brave?” and then stepped back to let Lorente ring a ceremonial bell to mark the milestone.

“This is your day,” the princess told her, smiling and applauding as Lorente rang the bell, a moment that often symbolizes the end of treatment.
