Jurassic World Dominion Now the Most Expensive Film Ever Made
After 11 years the most expensive film on record has been overtaken by 2022's Jurassic World Dominion. New filings show the movie cost $658.8 million to make, topping Star Wars: The Force Awakens' $638.9 million budget by $19.9 million. Dominion is the third Jurassic World film and the sixth installment overall in the Jurassic Park franchise.
Despite its new status as the costliest production, Jurassic World Dominion did not outgross The Force Awakens. Unadjusted for inflation, The Force Awakens brought in $2,071,310,218 worldwide and sits sixth on the all-time list, while Dominion grossed $1,001,978,080 and ranks 61st, falling short of the Top 50 and positioned between The Super Mario Galaxy Movie ($1,005,123,485) and The Lion King ($979,161,632).
Critically and among viewers, The Force Awakens also fares better. On Rotten Tomatoes' Popcornmeter the Star Wars entry scores 84% to Dominion's 77%, and critics gave The Force Awakens a Certified Fresh rating of 93% versus Dominion's 28%.
