June 2026: quiet on releases but big for events and updates
It has been a relatively quiet year for new game releases, and June 2026 feels especially slow for both big-budget titles and indies. That does not mean the month is a total wash: several older staples return with new updates, including Dead by Daylight's addition of Jason and a new Final Fantasy 14 patch, while the Destiny community's sendoff alongside Marathon remains a story to watch.
Notable launches and shifts this month include Marathon (Steam) beginning Season 2 with its usual playlist of challenges plus an experimental "PvP-lite" mode called Sponsored Survival, the Gothic Remake overhauling the 2001 RPG, eco-focused survival crafting in Solarpunk, Destiny 2 receiving its last live service update, the cooperative chaos of Burglin' Gnomes, and Shift at Midnight moving into June after missing its original May date.
June also brings the industry's big showcase weekend.
