Josko Gvardiol set to sign new Manchester City contract
Josko Gvardiol looks set to commit his long-term future to Manchester City, a move that would blunt Bayern Munich’s summer transfer plans. Despite firm interest from the Bavarian club, the Croatian appears inclined to extend his stay at the Etihad as City prepare for a change in management.
City are working to keep Gvardiol as a cornerstone of their defence. His current deal runs through 2028, and the club want to reward his progress with improved terms. Having arrived from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023, he has become a vital first-team figure and is viewed internally as "untouchable." Bayern had watched the situation closely while overhauling their defence, with sporting director Max Eberl placing several high-profile names on a sale list to balance the books.
The Bundesliga side saw Gvardiol as a leader for their backline who could link up with former Spurs striker Harry Kane, but the defender’s settled life in Manchester has made a move to Bavaria less likely.
