Josko Gvardiol has reached an agreement with Manchester City on a new contract that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2031, extending his existing deal by three years beyond its 2028 expiry. The 24-year-old has committed his long-term future to the Premier League champions, ending a period of intense speculation.

The move removes Gvardiol from the wish lists of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, both of which had identified him as a priority target. City remained calm during negotiations and expect the defender to remain a cornerstone of their back line as the club transitions into a new era.

Gvardiol won the club's Player of the Season award for 2024-25 but missed four months after suffering a broken leg in January. Versatile enough to operate as a central defender or a left-back, he returned in May with appearances against Crystal Palace and in the final-day clash with Aston Villa.
