José Mourinho revealed on the Beast Mode On Podcast that he once took a pain-killing injection to prove a point to an injured player. The player told him he was "crazy" and still refused the jab. The newly-appointed Real Madrid boss said he expects a 'win at all costs' mindset and 100 per cent commitment, noting he has collected major silverware in Portugal, England, Italy and Spain.

Speaking to Adebayo Akinfenwa, he added: "I don't make miracles. But I can improve the guys that are improvable. The guys that want to improve." He offered two examples of his methods. One was John Terry, who delayed surgery until after they won the Premier League; the other involved the unnamed player who would not accept an injection to play through pain.

Mourinho said the player had "one small fracture in the middle toe" and that the doctor told him: "No problem, it's just pain... you can play, there is no problem." When the player refused, Mourinho took off his shoe and socks and asked the doctor to give the injection to him.
