José Mourinho dismisses reports he will sell Real Madrid stars
Mourinho has denied rumours of a summer fire sale at Real Madrid, speaking on the Beast Mode On Podcast to address press reports suggesting star names would be moved on after alleged issues in previous regimes. Mourinho returns to the Bernabeu in July on a three-year contract, completing a return to the club where he was head coach from 2010 to 2013, winning three trophies including a record-breaking Liga title.
Madrid endured a below-par 2025-26 campaign, with Xabi Alonso sacked before Alvaro Arbeloa took over; they finished second in the league, exited the Copa del Rey to Albacete and were knocked out of the Champions League in the quarter-finals. After his appointment, rumours suggested wholesale changes, even as many as six big-name sales.
On the podcast he rejected that idea, saying no and adding: 'I want these players! I want the best players. Now I have to find a way to have a team and not to have problems like, eventually, I don't know, I'm just reading, that they had in previous seasons.
