Jordan Henderson on making history as first England player at four World Cups
Jordan Henderson admitted that “time flies” after the former Liverpool captain etched his name into the record books during England’s World Cup victory over Panama. The 36-year-old, who now plays for Brentford, became the first Three Lions international to feature in four different World Cup tournaments when he was introduced as a second-half substitute in the 2-0 win at the New York/New Jersey Stadium.
The victory ensured Thomas Tuchel’s side secured top spot in Group L and set up a Round of 32 clash against DR Congo, while Henderson earned his 91st cap and became the first Englishman to play in seven major international tournaments. Reflecting on his career after the match, Henderson said: “Time flies, doesn’t it.
It’s crazy really. I’ve always said how honoured I am to represent my country ever since I made my debut. To still be able to do it now is a dream come true and to get on and still run around like a little kid when I got some minutes means just as much now as when I made my first cap.
