Jon Cryer reflects on filming 'Pretty in Pink' with Andrew McCarthy

Jon Cryer says he did not get along with Andrew McCarthy while filming the 1986 teen rom-com "Pretty in Pink." "I thought he was aloof and just a d–k," Cryer said. "We had all kinds of issues." The film starred Molly Ringwald as Andie Walsh, Cryer as Philip F. "Duckie" Dale and McCarthy as Blane McDonnagh.

He recalled a moment when Ringwald and McCarthy were goofing off while he was in a close-up. "I got really mad at them," he said. He later learned the director had asked them to act that way to make him angry for the scene, and that McCarthy was privately struggling with family problems and alcohol.
