Joker: Laugh Riot Casts Clown Prince as John Wick-Style Avenger

DC Studios has teamed with Warner Bros. Animation and Sola Entertainment to produce an anime series titled Joker: Laugh Riot. The official logline places the Joker in an unexpected role: when Batman is murdered, the Joker launches a ruthless crusade through Gotham’s underworld to find the killer.

As his violent quest pushes him closer to vigilante than villain, he is forced to confront the truth that without Batman he doesn’t know who he is. Laugh Riot frames the Joker as an avenging angel, going on a John Wick–style rampage to eliminate those responsible for his beloved Batman’s death.

Sola Entertainment, which previously collaborated with Warner Bros. on The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim and Rick & Morty: The Anime, will produce the series. Yasuhiro Aoki will direct; his credits include the 2025 anime movie ChaO and the "In Darkness Dwells" segment of 2008’s Batman: Gotham Knight.
