Netflix Lands Global Hit With John Woo's 126-Minute Remake
John Woo's 2024 remake of The Killer has become a global hit on Netflix despite mixed reviews. The 126-minute action thriller originally premiered on Peacock in the summer of 2024. The story follows Zee (Nathalie Emmanuel), an accomplished assassin operating in Paris who is ordered to kill members of a drug gang at a local nightclub.
An American singer, Jenn (Diana Silvers), is blinded in the crossfire; Zee spares her, putting both women in danger and forcing Zee to confront her employers and her loyalties. Omar Sy also appears in the cast. Woo revisited his 1989 film by swapping a male lead for a female killer and shifting the setting from Hong Kong to Paris in an effort to reinterpret the material.
Critics and audiences were divided: The Killer holds a 59% critics rating and a 48% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Flix Patrol places the film fifth on the Global Top 10, between Office Romance at fourth and Maternal Instinct at sixth.
